Thousands of people gathered in the eastern quadrant of Rome to celebrate the partisans’ struggle. Over the years, this commemoration has not only been remembered and honored but has also evolved into a moment of resistance and vindication for contemporary and future battles. The youth once again took center stage in this event. Collective memory operates like a gear, and its impact becomes evident during these gatherings.

In the spirit of past struggles, the procession highlighted our ongoing challenges in an increasingly conflicted global context. Participants opposed the direction of the Italian government and the rise of new forms of fascism, manifesting with greater strength and organization across Europe. They also called attention to the fight against poverty in our urban neighborhoods and at the borders of Europe.

The procession began at Piazza delle Camelie, home to the monument honoring the resistance martyrs. It moved through the Centocelle neighborhood, a significant site of Roman resistance during the Nazi-Fascist era. The route continued to Quarticciolo, another historic area known for its role in the resistance, culminating in the park named after Modesto di Veglia, a member of the partisan organization Bandiera Rossa.

“April 25 is not a holiday, now and always, resistance!”
